Most people do not realize where my mind drifts off to when I am at the fly tying vice and I'm sure don't even or should even give it a thought.But while whipping up a fly often times it takes me on a fishing journey past or future. In the case of these yellow baitfish patterns with a red dot it took me back in time to the Idaho backcountry watching my Dad crushing it with his favorite spoon, the Z Ray in yellow with a red dot. In the few minutes it took to whip this fly up I relieved those moments decades and decades ago watching my Dad giggling, laughing and sometimes even teaching me some great Marine Corp cussing as he landed and lost some giant Bull trout with his favorite yellow with red dot Z Ray Spoon..Cheers to you Pops, I will stick a lip soon to honor those great moments in time.
