Flood Tide

Every fishery has a magic moment in time. To a fly fishing angler living in Idaho it may be those few days a year when the brown drakes hatch on the blue ribbon spring creek silver creek. During this short lived mayfly hatch anglers may experience a true magic moment in time when a large brown or rainbow trout gulp a brown drake fly. To a angler that swings a fly on the wild salmon river during those few months the river flows and water temps are perfect for a migrating steelhead that magic moment in time would be when a steelhead almost pulls the fly as well as the spey rod and reel out of their hand. In North east Florida those that experience casting a fly for redfish in flooded grass for a redfish would say this is a true magic moment in time.
A full moon in the months of September and October create King tides or what us fly anglers call flood tides. This event floods areas that are typically out of the water. These flooded areas are full of fidler crabs that are followed by redfish seeking a easy meal. A true magic moment in time.
